Bonds and the HR Chase

Regardless of whether Bonds doped or not the fact of the matter is that up until 2004 Steroids were not illegal to use according to MLB rules. And it wasn't until 2006 that MLB decided to ban and test for greenies (amphetamines).

I'm not saying that Aaron used either of these substances during the course of his career but we only have his word to verify this as testing by MLB wasn't done for either of these substances.

Bonds is being singled out currently due to allegations of use. There is no definitive proof as of yet.

Having played baseball up to the college level there will always be individuals who try and circumvent the rules and the spirit of baseball. There are plenty of players currently in the Hall of Fame who used steroids, greenies, corked bats, scuffed or altered the ball or used an illegal substance on the ball. Shall we pull those players from the Hall of Fame? Does the fact that these players might have committed one of these infractions diminish their career accomplishments?

Just some random thoughts.

DiMaggio Cup

Every year at the Presidio Golf Club there's a match play tournament called the DiMaggio Cup named after Joltin' Joe DiMaggio who was a member of the Presidio Golf Club for a number of years up until his death on March 8, 1999.

I didn't get to play in the DiMaggio Cup last year but this year after a number of difficult matches I was able to win my flight and receive the champions trophy.

Golf Tourney

Nicole and I participated in a 4 man - best ball scramble last Friday at the PGC. Even though it was only her 4th time to play on a real course and first time having to deal with Par 4's and Par 5's we ended up shooting +2 over par and ended up taking second place in the tournament.

I thought she did really well and hopefully next time we can take first place.

World Cup 2006 Thoughts so far

The US Team did about as well as they could considering the grouping they were in as well as the players and coaches they had.

One thing I do believe though it that it's time for Bruce Arena to step down as coach of the National Team. In fact Nick Webster over at FOX Sports mentions in his blog that Jurgen Klinsmann, the current German national team coach, has held talks with USSF Officials already in regards to taking over the US Program.

Arena has done a wonderful job to date with the US Team although his biggest errors this year were the exclusion from the roster of two of the best young US players to date. Freddy Adu and Lee Nguyen.

Now I'm not saying that they should have started for the US Team but if the US is to advance further in 2010 then these two guys are going to have to be those superstars that the current team is lacking. And as such, getting them on the team this year (even if they never set foot onto the pitch), was critical for their development.

My other concern about Adu is that he had told the Washington Post last year that he had made up his mind to play for the United States, but he told AFP that he would consider playing for either the US or Ghana (Adu was born in Ghana although a Naturalized US Citizen).

Anyways, now that the US is out time for me to start cheering hard for the Oranjes although they play Portugal next (Sorry Arruda, you guys lose again).
