Emotional Roller Coaster

So yesterday was an emotional roller coaster. I got engaged yesterday morning and also found out later that afternoon that a good friend of mine from the VA Linux Systems days also got engaged. Then I hear that another ex-VA'er lost his grandmother and another ex-VA Engineer lost his battle with cancer.

I'm not really sure what else I can say.

Christmas Morning….

So for Christmas I got a round of Golf at Pasatiempo (been wanting to play there for awhile now) as well as Quake 4. Which by the way plays awesome on the new shiny Mac Pro.

Oh yeah....I also asked Nicole to marry me and she actually said yes. So I'm engaged. Date for a wedding to be determined but I'm shooting for 2010. :)

Merry Christmas.

How Damage Studios was named

When Damage Studios was started (Officially Oct 9, 2002), myself and the other 2 co-founders spent some time trying to come up with a name for the company that conveyed who we were as well as trying to tie that name into Video Games.

I remember sitting in my living room on Twin Peaks in San Francisco spending about 2 hours with the other co-founders in front of a mobile whiteboard trying to come up with something we all liked.

At one point during the discussion Chris DiBona mentioned using some combination of all the co-founders names. We ended up writing our names on the board as such:

Anthony Guntharp
Chris DiBona
San Mehat

After playing around with some variations someone put up:

Dibona
Mehat
Guntharp

Which if you take the first letters of all the founders last names comes out as DMG. DMG is an abbreviation of the word Damage and is used primarily in role-playing games and computer video games in general.

And that’s how Damage Studios got it’s name.

Useful Utility for running Vista on a Macbook Pro

If like me, you're running Microsoft Vista on a Macbook Pro (there's a windows software development involved in my new gig) then you really should download and install Input Remapper. You'll have to first uninstall the Apple Keyboard Drivers but once you do and install the tool you can easily remap your keys and regain right-click functionality with the default Macbook Pro Keyboard.

The IT Crowd coming to NBC

In a move reminiscent of "The Office" the hit show "The IT Crowd" will be coming to NBC. It is currently being re-developed by writer and executive producers David Guarascio and Moses Port (Just Shoot Me, Mad About You); and Joe Port and Joe Wiseman (Son of the Beach, Dilbert).

In other "The IT Crowd" news Season 2 will be coming to the BBC on January 5th, 2007.
